FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualified Team: Mexico
Mexico played in the inaugural World Cup in 1930. Since then they have appeared at the World Cup a further 15 times. The best they ever did was a quarter final loss as the host nation in 1986.
Raul Jimenez plays for Wolves in the Premier League and is easily Mexico’s best player. He has already scored 30 times for his country.
Springtime is a great time to visit Mexico. There are less tourists and the weather is not as hot as in the summer.
The Riviera Maya is a beautiful coastline along the Gulf of Mexico. Here you will find famous resorts such as Cancun or Playa Del Carmen. Many tourists enjoy snorkeling/scuba diving among the reefs and colourful fish. There is also the largest underwater observatory in the world where you can see amazing sculptures submerged up to 8 metres. Close by there are many ancient Mayan ruins to visit.
Guanajuato is a UNESCo world heritage site with picturesque colonial buildings and plazas to explore. Have fun walking through the subterranean streets and tunnels. Art lovers should arrive in October when the Festival Internacional Cervantino happens.
You can’t skip Mexico City. This city is full of history and culture. You can stay at world class hotels for relatively cheap. Check out the Palace of Fine Arts and the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Interestingly, Mexico City was named Tenochtitlan back in 1325, but then colonised by the Spanish in 1521.
For the Foodies
No matter the food you're into, I highly recommend taking a food tour. The different spices Mexico has to offer coupled with the passion in cooking is a must do.
Pozole is a pre Hispanic soup. It is made from hominy with herbs and spices. Pozole has chicken, or pork or only with vegetables. The longer the soup is stewed the better it tastes.
Chiles es nogada has the three colours of the Mexican Flag. This dish is poblano chiles filled with chopped meat and fruit showing the green. The pomegranates shows the red of the flag. The cream walnut sauce shows the white of the flag
Pastel de tres leches, three milks cake, is a popular dessert eaten in Mexico. This sponge cake is soaked in 3 kinds of milk; evaporated, heavy and condensed. Although delicious, it’s not diet friendly.
Mexico has a promising team this World Cup. How far will they go this time?
