It is home to a stunning variety of marine life including 1500 fish species and 360 corals. Also there are different species of whales, dolphins, marine turtles, sea snakes and birds, which breed among the small islands. The best way to explore the Reef is hopping on one of the numerous boat cruises that run along the northern coast of Queensland. The northern town of Cairns is considered as the main gateway to the Reef. These boat cruises may be single day or for several days and have certain stops for snorkeling and diving. You can also enjoy the Reef at underwater observatories, glass-bottomed boat tours or helicopter flights insert photos.


Uluru or Ayers Rock is instantly recognizable due to its ruddy red hue It is one of Australia’s most famous landmarks. This giant rock is great to visit and why the national park is so popular for tourists.

There are lots of activities for visitors to enjoy including great walks, bike rides and tours. The Anangu Aboriginal people own this site and have a fantastic cultural center where you can learn more about their history and culture.

Vegemite maybe the most polarizing food on the planet but it’s an Australian treasure. It’s a dark brown salty paste made with, yeast extract, spices and vegetables. If you are brave enough try it on bread or on a cracker.

Meat pies are one of the one of the most popular take away foods in Australia. There are even dedicated pie shops. There are many different savory pies to choose from minced meat and mushrooms to cheese and onion. It’s a life saver after a hard night of partying for young people.


One thing you have to try is pavlova. You can buy this meringue based dessert in most cake shops or bakeries. They are also available pre-made in many big supermarkets.
